Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
According to sources from the State Election Commission, a total of 52 individuals have been arrested in relation to the violence that erupted during the filing of nominations for the Panchayat elections in Domkal and other areas of Murshidabad district in West Bengal. The arrests were made by the police of Domkal police station through search operations conducted in various areas.
Legal action has been initiated against the arrested individuals, with cases registered under Section 307. The incidents of violence have been widespread as the nomination filing process has been ongoing since last Friday in different parts of West Bengal.
One notable incident occurred in Domkal, Murshidabad, where Trinamool Congress workers allegedly surrounded and assaulted Congress candidates who had arrived to file their nominations. Subsequently, stone pelting ensued from both sides. During the police intervention to disperse the crowd, a pistol was seized from Trinamool's zonal president, Basir Mollah, along with four rounds of ammunition. The police intend to present this evidence in court.
Concerns have been raised about the composition of the arrested individuals, as fewer Trinamool Congress members have been apprehended compared to members of the opposition parties. This has led to questions regarding the police's actions in addressing the situation.
